Themed weddings are as popular as ever and with good reason. When you build your wedding around a theme you love, you can have a lot of fun planning how to bring it to life. Decorations, details, music, entertainment all play a part in creating the day that you want. However, have you thought about matching your wedding menu to your theme? It’s a great idea and a matched menu takes you wedding to the next level. Read on to find out the classic dishes we suggest for a popular wedding theme – The Great Gatsby.
Lots of couples take their wedding theme from a favourite book or movie and none is more stylish than The Great Gatsby. This iconic title oozes style and for fans for vintage-inspired glamour, there’s nothing better than a Gatsby wedding. Our Events Teams love working with couples to design a menu that’s full of food and drink that Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan would adore.
A Gatsby wedding has to include fabulous drinks served with style. The fizz flows fast in the novel so your guests definitely deserve some bubbles too but we’d suggest putting a British twist on things with Chapel Down’s Three Graces Brut NV instead of traditional champagne. Gin also needs to feature on your drinks menu and fabulous cocktails are a must. How about classic minted G&Ts or a Gin Rickey? This is the drink that you’ll see in the recent Gatsby movie and it was also, apparently, author F. Scott Fitzgerald’s drink of choice too.
Moving on to your wedding breakfast, an iconic theme needs a menu that’s packed with all-time favourites. We would start with a fresh and crisp Caesar salad that’s served with crunchy croutons, shaved Parmesan and the classic dressing as a finishing touch. Alternatively, in colder months, a silky-smooth French onion soup would be a truly delicious option. Served with masses of fresh crusty bread, this is a super satisfying starter that will prepare everyone for what’s to come.
For a light main course option that’s all about luxury and indulgence, how about a perfectly grilled fillet of sole? Served with a poached duck egg and sauce mousseline, this is s dish that would have had a place on the best 1920s menus. If you love steak, we can certainly help. Grilled rib-eye steak with fondant potato, green beans, Bearnaise sauce and hazelnut oil is a firm favourite with our couples – as soon as you taste it, you’ll understand why!
When it comes to your dessert, we suggest that you choose a timeless classic that’s been given a wonderful wedding makeover. Our velvety crème brulee is accompanied by strawberries dripped in dark chocolate and always receives rave reviews from guests. If you prefer savoury delights to sweet treats, there’s nothing better than a cheeseboard to round off your meal. A selection of artisan cheeses, served with granary bread, biscuits, chutney, grapes, figs and celery is a showstopping finale for your wedding breakfast and you can also be sure that these platters will fuel your guests for an evening of dancing and partying, Gatsby-style!
