With their hearts set on an unforgettable celebration filled with amazing wedding food and live music, Philippa and James went about searching for the perfect setting for their special day. When they found Davenport House, a magical country house wedding venue in Shropshire, they knew it was the right place for them.
“We had heard that Davenport House had been recently updated, and when we looked on the website we saw how good it looked and rang up straight away to arrange a viewing. The décor was simple but still maintained lots of the stunning authentic features and the whole place had such an inviting atmosphere. When we were looking around, I could really see myself marrying James in this venue and we booked it there and then!” – Philippa
Philippa and James loved the elegant feel of Davenport House and wanted to complement it with their choice of wedding theme. Opting for a simple and stripped-back approach, Philippa decorated the venue’s grand staircase and tables with floral displays and worked to a colour scheme of lilac, grey and navy to tie in with the venue’s palette. After including a handful of personal touches, everything was perfect for the bride and groom’s big day.
“I have a bit of an obsession with hexagons, so the shape featured in a number of our decorations. We had hexagonal invites, wedding favours and wine glass charms, combined with clear acrylic touches to bring a bit of a contemporary feel to the day. Even my engagement ring is hexagonal, so I really wanted it to feature in the décor.” – Philippa
The Galloping Gourmet chefs at Davenport House love creating the finest wedding food for every part of a couple’s special day and provided Philippa and James with the perfect way to celebrate and treat their guests. The happy couple decided on a menu full of British classics and family favourites, starting the wedding breakfast with prawn cocktail, followed by shepherd’s pie for the main course and finally a decadent sticky toffee pudding to finish. In the evening, the chefs fired up the barbecue and served up burgers, hot dogs and chicken kebabs to the newlyweds’ friends and family.

“Shepherd’s pie is James’ favourite meal and he’s always eaten it with a teaspoon, so for a special gift, I bought James, his brother and his dad an engraved teaspoon each to use on the day. The main course wasn’t just a favourite with them though, our guests made a point of saying how much they loved it too.” – Philippa
The Events Team at Davenport House have plenty of experience in helping couples create their perfect wedding day, and Philippa and James discovered this right from their very first visit to the venue.
“Verity sorted out everything for us and I had complete faith in her. She helped us decide on our menu and organise our décor while Nikki arranged all of our accommodation and any other little issues we had along the way. – Philippa
