Nicola and James had always dreamt of an intimate celebration at a breathtaking wedding venue, and when they came across Bassmead Manor Barns, they knew they had found the perfect place.
“We were looking for a barn venue that could hold both the ceremony and reception and Bassmead was just the place!” says Nicola. “With James being a carpenter and my love of interior design and the countryside, we couldn’t have found a better venue. The exposed beams and brickwork in the Rickety Barn finished with fairy lights were simply stunning and the whole look and feel of the place made us instantly fall in love with it.”
To match their country surroundings and interests, the happy couple decided upon on a woodland theme for their special day at this Cambridgeshire wedding venue.
“The theme defines who we are and because we created it all ourselves, it felt very personal to us,” says Nicola.
With a love for crafting and decorating, Nicola put her skills to good use and hand-made everything from cake stands to the flower arrangements. The couple also incorporated a neutral colour scheme that fitted well with the setting and let Bassmead Manor Barns’ natural beauty really stand out. Altogether, the DIY approach and inviting décor helped create a unique, personal style that was a real joy to behold.
After an unforgettable ceremony in the charming Rickety Barn, the newlyweds and their guests made their way to the Moat Barn for delightful drinks and canapés. White peach sangria and elderflower sparklers were accompanied by mini shepherd’s pies, deep-fried Somerset Brie and mini beef burgers, all of which went down a treat.
The couple were then welcomed into the contemporary reception space and shared a delectable wedding breakfast with their loved ones. Nicola and James opted for the Deluxe Menu and enjoyed a smoked bacon Scotch egg to start, supreme of chicken with goat’s cheese and pepper stuffing for the main course, and a decadent vanilla cheesecake for dessert. Our Galloping Gourmet chefs at Bassmead Manor Barns pride themselves on serving up the finest wedding food and drink every time, and it’s safe to say that the bride and groom weren’t disappointed.
“The cheesecake was the best I’ve ever had,” says Nicola. “Although the Scotch egg rivals it for the top spot as my brother could not stop raving about it!”

“The Events team were fantastic and maintained a very calm approach to the planning process, which really helped!” says Nicola. “They answered all our questions and provided comprehensive information about what happens throughout the process. We completely trusted them and knew that the day would be stress-free.”
