Laura and Nick were searching for a memorable wedding venue with amazing food in which to hold their special day, and when they saw Bassmead Manor Barns for the first time, they were blown away.
“From the moment Nick and I drove up the oak-lined drive we both looked at each other and said wow!” smiles Laura. “It’s set on acres of farmland and naturally creates a very private and quiet setting. It had everything we wanted.”
After booking their wedding date, Laura set about planning a classy and elegant style for their big day. With plenty of inspiration from Pinterest and friends’ weddings, the beautiful bride added plenty of little touches to the venue. Laura wanted to make sure that Bassmead’s spectacular natural décor still took centre stage however.
“I felt that all the spaces at the venue were so beautiful with natural wood, brick and cream/gold accents that all I needed to decorate them with was candlelight and flowers,” explains Laura.
Nick had chosen to tie the knot in his military uniform, so Laura used this to her advantage and incorporated navy, gold and cream accents into the decorations to work well with his look.
After tying the knot in the breathtaking Rickety Barn, Laura and Nick treated their loved ones to cocktails and canapés as they soaked up the idyllic surroundings. With gin berry fizz cocktails and non-alcoholic apple juleps accompanied by smoked chicken tartlets, arancini, smoked salmon blinis and plenty more miniature delights.
After their drinks reception, the wedding party made their way into the contemporary-styled Bridge Barn for the feast that had been such an important part of the couple’s plans.
“If it is one thing Nick and I love it is food, good food!” says Laura. “We both love cooking and eating out at good restaurants and one of the main reasons we chose Bassmead was because of the excellent Galloping Gourmet catering.”
The couple opted for the Premier menu and selected a starter of seared scallops, beef served two ways with potato dauphinoise for the main course, and a trio of white chocolate mousse, treacle tart and passion fruit parfait for dessert. There was even a surprise course before the beef – a palate cleanser of lemon sorbet with a lime and vodka shot – which certainly went down well with their guests!

“The hardest part was choosing what menu style as Galloping Gourmet offers you so many great options,” says Laura. “The surprise course was possibly my favourite. I loved the way it was served on dry ice for a theatrical addition to the wedding breakfast!”
The mouth-watering wedding food didn’t end there either. The bride and groom were torn between a wedding cake and an impressive cheese stack – so went for both! The latter was served in the evening with a delicious charcuterie board and plenty of chutneys which was a great hit.

“Everything was done through our dedicated Senior Events Manager Hayley,” explains Laura. “She was amazing, we really couldn’t have got through the day without her. She was a true professional and orchestrated the day seamlessly.”
After dining on exquisite wedding food, dancing the night away and enjoying a stay in the luxurious Dove Cottage, it’s safe to say that the happy couple had the most fantastic day celebrating at Bassmead Manor Barns.
