Katie and Matt’s criteria for finding their perfect wedding venue was clear; they wanted an incredible setting that none of their friends had married at before. When they came across Blackwell Grange, they had a feeling that they had found their dream location, although it would require using their imagination quite a lot to start with.
“We have always loved the Cotswolds and knew the venue was not too far from us, so we booked an appointment to view it,” says Katie. “We didn’t know what to expect as there were only drawings of the venue at the time and before we went for the appointment we were pre-warned to take wellies as the venue was under construction!”
“When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner, Didi, who showed us around the venue. The wedding barn had no roof and the reception building only about a metre-high but we were so inspired by Didi’s visions that we knew the venue was going to be beautiful when it was finished!
The happy couple decided on a simple, elegant and understated style to their day, aiming for a relaxed atmosphere with just a touch of glamour. The bride crafted all of the wedding stationery herself, and they used plenty of beautiful flowers to decorate the ceremony and reception spaces and give their day a natural feel. With rich hues that were reflected in the bridesmaid’s dress and groomsmen’s accessories, their day was colourful and sophisticated all at the same time.
After exchanging their vows in the breathtaking Thatch Barn, the newlyweds made the most of the glorious sunshine and held their drinks reception on the picturesque Cider Lawn, with rolling countryside views all around. They opted for Pimm’s, ice-cold beers and elderflower sparklers, accompanied by a delicious selection of canapés. The mini fish and chips went down particularly well with Katie’s nephew, while other guests also enjoyed mushroom and leek risotto balls, Thai chicken skewers and baked Camembert with sourdough crostini.
When the time came for the wedding breakfast, Katie and Matt were welcomed into the Orchard Barn by all their loved ones and sat down to feast on a mouth-watering menu created by the Galloping Gourmet chefs at Blackwell Grange. With bruschetta to start, a surprise course of lemon sorbet with a lime and vodka shot, and roast fore rib of beef for the main course, it was safe to say that every course went down a treat.

“Each table received the roast beef on a carving board. One guest per table was then chosen to carve and serve everyone else,” explains Katie. “It was great fun and got everyone talking!”
The couple had decided on exquisite dessert canapés to bring their wedding breakfast to a close, and the good weather meant they could enjoy these out in the gardens. Their loved ones sampled salted caramel ice cream cones, mini scones with clotted cream and jam and raspberry Eton mess while playing garden games as the sun shone down.
“We created a bespoke menu and picked all our favourite things!” says Katie. “The food is one of the things your guests remember most about your wedding day so we wanted to treat our guests to something special.”
The wonderful wedding food didn’t stop there either, and when the evening reception started, the Galloping Gourmet chefs fired up the outdoor pizza oven and served an array of pizzas to the delight of all the guests
It makes all the difference knowing that you’ve got someone to support you throughout your wedding planning and on the big day, that’s exactly what Katie and Matt received from the Galloping Gourmet Events Team at Blackwell Grange.
“The Events Team were so helpful during the planning process and made sure we were completely happy with our food choices and arrangement for the day,” says Katie. “Everything ran so smoothly on the wedding day – I didn’t have to worry about a thing!”
With such a new and unique venue, complete with amazing wedding food and drink, Katie and Matt certainly got their wish of a venue that was nothing like any of their friends’ wedding days. The bride’s only regret was not getting to sample all of the canapés!
“We loved the whole day but particularly loved having all our favourite people with us. All our hard work had paid off.”
