It’s easy to see why so many couples choose an autumn wedding. The days are cooler, the evenings are a little darker and it’s the ideal time to get cosy and enjoy a wonderful day with friends and family. Of course, we absolutely love this season because of the foodie options that are available and what could be better than serving a real harvest feast to your guests? If you’re looking for perfect autumn wedding food, let our suggestions make your mouth water…
There really is an abundance of amazing produce available in autumn and here at Galloping Gourmet, we always include seasonal dishes in our wedding menus. Incorporating the best of the harvest into your wedding day menu is definitely something that we would recommend because the produce will be at its tastiest and freshest. By using seasonal ingredients, you give your wedding menu a real sense of being special, something that could only be created at this time of year and guests really enjoy that feeling. Of course, our menus always focus on seasonality but if you’ve got an autumnal favourite, let us know and we’ll create a bespoke menu that includes dishes or ingredients that you adore.
So, what would we include in an autumnal, harvest-inspired wedding feast? Well, we’d start with a warming reception drink that’s particularly perfect for serving to guests whilst you’re outside having photos taken. Make sure that no one feels the cold with a warm spiced cider and we’d also suggest a tempting selection of hot canapes too. If you’d prefer something chilled and sparkling, how about a Kir Royale? This tasty concoction teams fizz with Crème de Cassis for a bubbly drink that’s bursting with berry flavours.
If we move onto the wedding feast itself, you’re going to be absolutely spoilt for choice but for an autumn wedding, what could be better than a hearty soup? Fresh butternut soup with cashew nuts and a hint of chilli is pure indulgence in a bowl. Served with super fresh crusty bread and smooth salted butter, we’ve taken a classic dish and reinvented it for the season.
Autumn definitely calls for robust flavours and your wedding also requires more than a touch of luxury. For your main course, venison would be an unexpectedly brilliant choice. Served with creamed vanilla mash, roasted heritage carrots, smoked bacon, buttered sprout leaves and a thyme jus, this has all the flavours of autumn on one plate.
An alternative would be sumptuous roast Barbary duck accompanied by tortellini with slow cooked leg meat and an orange, clove and redcurrant sauce. Those flavours would be so perfect for late autumn with the orange and clove hinting at the arrival of winter.
Finally, it’s time for dessert and more temptations for your guests with fruity flavours featuring in warm, indulgent puddings. An autumnal apple and blackberry compote with a hazelnut crumb and a caramel custard is sure to please even the most sweet-toothed guests. However, if you’d prefer a savoury finale to your wedding breakfast, how about a baked goat’s cheese with grilled figs and toasted walnut bread? Whatever you choose, your autumn wedding food is sure to be remembered for years.
