Claire and Craig had their hopes set on a wedding day that was personal to them, and that all their friends and family could help them celebrate. When they came across Bassmead Manor Barns, a breathtaking wedding venue in Cambridgeshire, they knew that they had found the right place to give them precisely that.
“We want everything in the wedding to reflect our quirks and personalities and a great photographer to capture everything that happened on the day. We chose Bassmead Manor Barns because we’d always wanted a converted barn venue and a place where everyone could be together, no matter whether they were dancing, sitting or talking. The rustic beauty of the Rickety Barn made me cry when I first saw it – it just felt really special! The venue also offered a wide variety of menu packages and the team were really flexible when it came to selecting which package we wanted.” – Clare
Clare and Craig not only wanted their wedding to look good but to also have that perfect atmosphere so all their guests could relax and enjoy themselves. With a rustic theme and a romantic colour scheme, the happy couple had decided on a style that would suit both their venue and their summer wedding date.
“The look of the day was rustic with a colour scheme of dusky pink and green. We chose the theme because we wanted it to not only reflect us, as we are quite laid back, but also wanted our guests too feel relaxed and at ease. I made a lot of the decorations myself with the help of my bridesmaids and really enjoyed doing it too!” – Clare
After tying the knot in Bassmead’s stunning Rickety Barn, the newlyweds and their guests spilled out into the gardens to enjoy drinks and canapés in the sun. With mojitos and berry blush cocktails accompanied by sundried tomato arancini, crispy pork belly, mini fish and chips and ricotta and spinach tartlets.
Soon it was time for the wedding breakfast and everybody made their way into the Bridge Barn to enjoy a delicious meal created by the Galloping Gourmet chefs. The couple opted for our signature smoked bacon Scotch egg to starters, followed by a sharing dish of roast forerib of beef and fondant potato for the main course and a trio of decadent desserts to finish. They also opted for a surprise course of lemon sorbet and a shot of gin which made the perfect palate cleanser!

“We love food and just wanted to do something a bit different for our wedding day. We loved the idea of having a nominated person from each table to carve the beef, it was a great way to add a bit of fun.” – Clare
The fun didn’t stop at the wedding breakfast, however. During the day, the happy couple treated their guests to a number of drinks stations where they could create their own gin cocktails and hard lemonade at their will. In the evening, the Galloping Gourmet chefs fired up the barbecue and conjured up delicious smoked brisket and slow-braised shoulder.
“The beef was definitely our favourite course. It was sooooo tender and juicy and watching people carve it was hilarious. We attended a tasting evening at Bassmead Manor Barns and although we didn’t get to try our actual menu, we realised that all the food was amazing, so we weren’t worried!” – Clare
Galloping Gourmet prides itself on offering the most incredible service to ensure that a couple’s wedding day is unforgettable for all the right reasons. Clare and Craig experienced this first-hand as the Galloping Gourmet team at Bassmead Manor Barns helped them all through the planning stages to create their perfect wedding.
“Amanda was our personal wedding coordinator and we absolutely loved her. She was amazing and we literally didn’t have to worry about anything because she had already thought about it and sorted it out.” – Clare
