Children At Weddings – How To Make Sure They Love The Day

If you’ve decided to invite children to your wedding, you’ll want to ensure that your little guests enjoy the day as much as the adults. Making sure that they love your wedding food is a big step in keeping everyone happy and at Galloping Gourmet, our child-friendly menus cater for all tastes. Whether your young guests are picky eaters or budding gourmets, we have a wonderful selection of wedding food and drink that they’re sure to love. We’ve also got some great ideas for activities and entertainment too so read on!

Let’s be honest, none of us are at our best when we’re hungry or thirsty and the same is certainly true of children! Making sure they’re fed and watered on your big day will keep them smiling and the best way to do this is with a brilliant menu that’s been designed especially for kids. We love making your mini guests feel special so everything will look and taste fabulous so they’ll totally feel part of the celebrations.

Starting with drinks, we definitely recommend serving up a selection of fabulous mocktails. Children always love these, particularly as drinking a super-cool mocktail makes them feel like one of the grown-ups! We also pack them with fruit and make sure the flavour suits tiny taste-buds too. Our mango frappe, made with orange and mango juice and finished with fresh lime, is always popular. Another favourite has to be our zingy Mock-jitos with fresh mint and lime, a dash of crushed brown sugar and finished off with plenty of yummy lemonade.

Wedding breakfasts can be tough for younger guests. It’s hard to sit through a long dinner when you’re excited so serve food that they’ll love to eat to keep them in their seat. For starters, garlic bread with melted cheese or dough balls with garlic or plain butter and vegetable sticks work wonderfully for even the pickiest of eaters. If the little ones are more adventurous, how about salmon and potato croquettes or breaded chicken strips served with dipping pots of mayo and barbecue sauce?

Moving on to the main course and again, delicious food will keep everyone happy. Penne pasta with meatballs in a tomato sauce is always a winner and our burgers and hot dogs in brioche buns served with chips and sides are another great option. Younger guests also adore comfort food, so you could opt for sausage and mash with onion gravy or shepherd’s pie with creamed and buttered mash.

Everyone always goes crazy for dessert and a wedding deserves something amazing. Our ice cream milkshakes served with chocolate chip cookies are so good that you have to make sure the adults don’t steal them while the all-time classic of an ice cream selection with sprinkles never gets old.

As well as making sure your food and drink is totally child-friendly, why not arrange a few activities that they’ll love? Goodie bags on the tables are always a great idea – include mini games, colouring sheets, quizzes and even a competition or two. Let little ones burn off some energy with a wedding-themed scavenger hunt or treasure trail with prizes for everyone who completes the game.

Kids always love joining in with the adults so let them go crazy in the photo booth during your evening reception and for a totally different take on your big day, why not give them disposable cameras so that they can capture all the action? You’ll love the results!
