A special day deserves a special location and, when Charlotte and Michael visited Rivervale Barn, they knew they had found the perfect wedding venue in Hampshire for them. They were searching for beautiful surroundings, plenty of space and fantastic wedding food, and Rivervale Barn catered for all three.
“We chose Rivervale Barn because it ticked all the boxes for us,” says Charlotte. “I really wanted a barn setting but Michael wanted a venue that was bright and more modern. My brother recommended Rivervale and the moment we saw it we knew it was perfect!”
To work with the delightful country setting, the happy couple decided to incorporate a theme of shabby chic into their wedding. Luckily for Charlotte and Michael, a talented family member was ready and willing to lend a hand with the decorations.
“My Dad made most of my decorations,” explains Charlotte. “He is a display artist so he was the perfect person for the job! We joined together lots of grey and white wicker hearts with lace and twine, which we then hung on the beams in the barn. We also made a wooden pallet into a Polaroid picture holder, which the kids especially loved!”
The couple were keen for the beauty of the barn to stand out, so didn’t go overboard with decorations. Stunning floral arrangements and lanterns were ideal for that natural feel, while also providing a romantic and inviting feel.
Weddings in Rivervale Barn’s Ceremony Barn are truly special, with its impressive exposed timber frame and the light pouring in through the huge windows. After tying the knot in this beautiful setting, Charlotte and Michael celebrated with drinks and canapés which were incredibly well received by their guests. Pink sangria and sparkling elderflower were perfect in the summer weather, while Buck’s Fizz gave a nod to the couple getting engaged around Christmas. The drinks were accompanied by mini fish and chips and burgers, lamb koftas and moreish arancini balls.
When it came to the wedding breakfast, the newlyweds were welcomed into the Dining Barn to rapturous applause and shared a wonderful menu with their loved ones. The Galloping Gourmet team at Rivervale Barn served up their signature smoked bacon Scotch egg to start, fillet of beef with dauphinoise potatoes for the main course and a decadent triple chocolate torte for dessert.

“The warm scotch egg is something we have never had at a wedding before so we thought it would be a nice change for all our guests,” says Charlotte. “The fillet of beef was the stand-out dish for me. I was amazed that they served around 100 perfectly-cooked steaks and everything that came with it was delicious too! What I also loved was that for anyone with allergies, the chefs could create the same menu for them but adapted to their needs.”
As the evening reception got underway, Charlotte and Michael chose to treat their guests to a fire-pit barbecue, cooked right before their eyes in the courtyard. The talented chefs served burgers, halloumi skewers, hot dogs and chicken kebabs – the perfect accompaniment to drinking and dancing!
With a Galloping Gourmet Events Team situated at the venue, Charlotte and Michael knew they would be in safe hands.
“The team were so helpful,” says Charlotte. “They would get back to me straight away to answer any questions I had and we couldn’t fault them at all.”
The bride and groom got the opportunity to experience our expert wedding catering and passionate service when they were invited to attend a Galloping Gourmet Tasting Event at Rivervale Barn. With exquisite dishes being served and the venue filled with guests mingling and having fun, it was a real taste of things to come for Charlotte and Michael.
