Choosing the best wines to complement your wedding food can be a challenge. We’ve taken all the hard work out of it and curated some perfect pairings in our 2018 wedding menu.
Our expert team of Bar Managers have been working hard to devise a fantastic wine list. All of the options are great to enjoy on their own, but even better when matched with our spectacular wedding food. We’ve added a range of new wines for 2018 including some of the delightful choices below, and included our suggestions for dishes that would complement them perfectly.
The first new white wine option is Ayrum Verdejo Blanco, Valdepeñas from Spain, which features in our Deluxe Package. Verdejo is an aromatic grape variety with floral notes of melon and citrus fruit; great with our seared king scallop and salmon with sautéed Ratte potato starter.
A Kleine Zalze Bush Vines Chenin-Blanc from South Africa has also been added to our deluxe package. Low-yielding bush vines planted on the Knorhoek Farm ‘s vineyards on the lower slopes of the towering Simonsberg Mountain produce this ripe, tropical-fruit flavoured Chenin Blanc. This would match incredibly well with our new starter option of chargrilled tiger prawns with a salad of crab and caramelised lemon.
Gavi di Gavi, Toledana, Domini Villa Lanata from Italy is available in our premier package. Gavi, Piemonte’s most celebrated unoaked, fresh and minerally white wine, is made from the Cortese grape, grown in vineyards in the south-east of the region. This wine would be brilliant with an antipasti board, which we have included as a fun sharing option on our 2018 wedding menus.
A new red wine featuring on our deluxe menu is Bolla Pinot Noir, Provincia di Pavia from Italy, made from Pinot Noir grown in Lombardia. The wine is ruby-red with aromas of wild cherry, bramble fruit, dried spring flowers, and a touch of liquorice, meaning it is ideal for dishes with a hint of spice, such as our roast pork tenderloin, ravioli of spiced belly and caramelised onion jus main course.
Kleine Zalze Merlot, Stellenbosch, from South Africa has also been added to our deluxe menu. Part of the blend is matured in French oak barrels for six months, producing wine with ripe blackcurrant fruit and typical soft, juicy tannins. We suggest lamb two ways – braised shoulder and roast cutlets with garlic and rosemary crushed potatoes as the ideal main course to serve with this.
We also have a Kleine Zalze Malbec available on our new list; there could be nothing better than a classic beef Wellington with celeriac and potato puree, roast shallots and parsnip crisps for this wine.
